@epunjiin1oo4 - this will be a long one. my previous company was acquired, and the acquiring company wants me to stay on board for 45 days after the close of the deal for transitional purposes. i need to stay these 45 days in order for me to get my severance package. during these next 45 days i will probably put in about 8 hours of work in total (not my first acquisition so i know how the game is played). i told my new company “i will be on board for 45 days” but i can come work for you during this period. somehow they misunderstood “staying on board” as i’m going to resign and freaked out when i told them that i was still employed. since they are not competitors or have a customer / client relationship, there is no conflict of interest and nothing illegal with being double employed. now the new company doesn’t want me to start until my 45 days are over. they also decided to kick me in the gut on my way out by telling me that they will keep the job open and look to fill this position during these next 45 days. i know they won’t find someone in 45 days, since they couldn’t find someone during the 4 months they waited for me, but i’m quite pissed that they said that to me. either way, i’m not too worried, if they fill the job since my package + unemployment will more than cover me for the rest of the year. the worst thing that can happen now, is that i have to take a 6 month vacation =P so i guess to answer your question…it didn’t quite go so well!
